Lamrim Monlam
Monterey, CA

On May 2, 2002 we on the Monterey Peninsula will have the good fortune of receiving teachings from Arjia Rinpoche. Many of you may remember Rinpoche when he was here a year ago and gave teachings on Manjushri.
Arjia Rinpoche is the Abbot of Kumbum Monastery in Amdo, Tibet. He is the reincarnation of the father of Je Tsong Khapa, the founder of the Gelupa sect (Yellow Hat) of Tibetan Buddhism. Rinpoche has worked with more than ten lineage teachers, including His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the late Panchen Lama. After overseeing the renovation of his monastery, establishing a new order of Buddhist monks there, building schools, founding the Kumbum Red Cross, and working on numerous other charitable causes, Rinpoche fled his homeland in 1998 due to political difference with China. He eventually came to California where he established Yellow Hat Buddhist Center in Mill Valley.

Rinpoche will give Lamrim Teachings ("The Graded Path"). Lamrim is one of the richest traditions in Tibetan Buddhism. Vast and profound, it provides all of Buddha's teachings in a clear, step-by-step path to enlightenment.

The Lamrim tradition started with Je Tsong Khapa, who is believed to have received the teaching from Manjushri, the deity of Wisdom. Lamrim teaches us how to live our lives to the fullest and with merits. Rinpoche will offer a basic introduction of Lamrim and then explain the Lamrim Monlam ("Prayer") in detail.
